THE VENUS DE MILO
2016, Oil & Charcoal on Canvas, 30 x 20 in. (76.2 x 50.8 cm.)
In this exceptional painting of The Venus de Milo, Conine uses the technique of washing color mixed with turpentine over unfixed charcoal. Note the fine details of her abdomen musculature, face and clothing as light floods the right side of the body, while her elegant figure contrasts nicely against the Indian red background. This is more than a representation of a classic sculpture . . . it’s a very classy masterpiece in its own right.
